The Fundo plant in Charlottenberg comprises is one of the world’s most modern facilities for tilt casting. This casting method is the most common choice for castings with complex shape. At Fundo there is more than twenty tilt casting machines grouped into lines, which allows a efficient production of medium-sized as well as large volumes. Our current tilt casting capacity is about 8,000 tons of aluminum parts per year.
A controlled filling of the metal into the cavity is achieved by tilting the dies from a horizontal position backward 90 degrees to a vertical position, controlled by the casting machines control system. The result is a process giving good properties in respect of soundness and fatigue properties.
Tilt casting provides good conditions for a directional solidification, thus reducing the risk of porosity and a better casting yield than conventional methods. Thanks to the rapid solidification, tilt cast part features a fine structure with good mechanical properties that can be further improved by heat treatment.
