Aluminium

  • There is more than 8% of Aluminium in the earth’s crust, third most of all elements. It does not exist as pure metal and need a lot of energy to be extracted to metal. Aluminium is very well suited for recycling and thereby only a 1/20 of the energy producing Aluminium from ore is needed.
  • Aluminium is weighing only a third of iron per litre, has excellent electrical and thermal conductivity and a good built-in corrosive resistance making Aluminium an excellent engineering material.
  • By alloying with other elements good strength and castability can be achieved.
  • Compared to most other commonly used metals Aluminium has a low melting point and is therefore excellent to cast in tools made of steel for longer series. Such production will give good total economy paired with excellent casting quality and low environmental impact. In our business the casting tools of steel are called dies / permanent moulds and pending on geometry and casting alloy they can be used for 20 000 to 100 000 castings.
  • Fundo is casting most of its production in the recycled alloys AlSi10Mg and AlSi8Cu3. If requirements concerning crash properties e t c exist, we also cast the primary alloys AlSi7Mg0,3 and AlSi9Mg.
